Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Birth Doula?
A birth doula helps the pregnant momma believe in her own abilities to give birth and educates the momma and daddy to know what choices she has in her labor and birth.
A birth doula helps the momma emotionally, mentally, and physically throughout labor and birth through position change suggestions, hot and cold packs, and different comfort measures to ease the pain of labor.
A birth doula helps the daddy to not feel all the pressure of not knowing what to do but let’s the daddy love his spouse since that is what he does best.
A birth doula does not make decisions for you or your spouse but they are there to support your decisions.
As a doula, I provide personalized support for the mother’s needs in dynamic interaction with the father. Specific actions include helping the mama with coping with labor through breathing together, help the Mama find her inner strength through affirmations, acknowledge pain when it is there since we do want good strong contractions, continually observing the Mama and her nonverbal cues of what is in pain or what phase she is in.
Why do I need a birth doula?
The statistics are out! According to the 2019 Cochrane Review of Continuous Support for Women in Childbirth, a birth doula helps lower the rate of a cesarean birth! You will also
use less pain medications
have shorter labors
more satisfaction with your birth!
Why do I need childbirth education?
It’s about gaining confidence and wisdom for your labor and birth. You will be better prepared and able to advocate for yourself since unfortunately the medical system is about $$$ and not about a women trusting her abilities to give birth.
What is my philosophy of birth?
I view birth as a holistic and transformative experience, one that encompasses not only the physical act of labor and delivery but also the emotional, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of bringing new life into the world. Central to my approach is the recognition that, given the right support and environment, the vast majority of women are fully capable of birthing their babies safely and confidently.
As a doula, I am there to enhance your space with you (and your partner). I am there to play the role of a servant for the laboring mama and dad.
My philosophy is rooted in the following principles:
Trust in the Body: We trust in the remarkable capabilities of the human body to grow, nurture, and birth new life. My role as doula is to provide unwavering support and encouragement, empowering women to tap into their innate strength and intuition throughout the birthing process.
Respect for the Mama’s Autonomy: I honor the autonomy and agency of the Mama, recognizing that they are the ultimate decision-makers in their birthing journey. I provide evidence-based information, guidance, and emotional support to help them make informed choices that align with their values and preferences.
Creating a Supportive Environment: I believe in the importance of creating a supportive and nurturing environment for birthing individuals, one that fosters a sense of safety, comfort, and empowerment. Through compassionate presence, continuous support, and personalized care, I strive to cultivate an atmosphere where Mama’s feel empowered to birth on their own terms.
Honoring the Sacredness of Birth: I approach birth with reverence and awe, recognizing it as a sacred and transformative moment in the life of a family. I honor the birthing process as a deeply spiritual and profound experience, one that has the potential to leave a lasting imprint on the lives of all involved.
By embracing birth as a natural event and upholding these guiding principles, I am committed to providing compassionate, holistic, and empowering support to families as they embark on the miraculous journey of childbirth.
